Parks in Cambridge

Cambridge really is a green city. The stunning landscapes flow straight along the river Cam with cattle grazing by the side of the colleges. There is an abundance of beautiful parks that you can picnic under the trees and take in the breath-taking displays of flowering bulbs, College grounds and Fellows gardens.

Cambridge University Botanic Garden

Since its opening in 1846, Cambridge University Botanic Garden has been an inspiration for gardeners. It is described as a refreshing oasis for families and couples looking for a relaxing day out.
It is a heritage-listed Garden filled to the brim with plants, wildlife and trails to excite and enjoy.

Parker’s Piece

Located in the city centre, Parker’s Piece is an open space used by locals to lounge around and play football and cricket on the grass. The grass is well manicured and it is known today chiefly as a perfect spot for picnics and lawn games for tourists or friends and family.

Milton Country Park

Milton Country Park is a 95-acre park situated just North of Cambridge City.  The park has two miles of natural habitat with woodland, lakes, playgrounds and pathways suitable for bicycles and wheelchairs. There is also a café and visitors centre. Dogs are welcome and can be walked off-lead anywhere.

Wandlebury Country Park and Nature Reserve

Located on top of the Magog Hills, just south of Cambridge there is views as far as Ely. This tranquil countryside estate has over eight miles of stunning pathway walks through woodland and wildflower meadows grazed by Highland Cattle. It is the perfect setting for a picnic or a BBQ, to watch wildlife, build a den, have a gentle stroll or a strenuous hike. There is also events and activities for all ages that you can take part in.

Midsummer Common

Midsummer Common is an ancient area of grassland bordered by the River Cam, where you can see the boathouses of the Colleges of the University and watch the rowers on the water. The park hosts famous annual events such as Midsummer Fair, Strawberry Fair and a fantastic display on Bonfire night.
